Aspinwall, PA – Allegheny RiverTrail Park presents a winter festival called Shiver on the River on Friday, December 17 from 6pm-9pm.
Shiver on the River will feature live music, a holiday market with artisanal vendors, a special holiday display for children on loan from the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, fire pits for roasting marshmallows, and food and drink for sale from Farmer x Baker. “If the weather allows, we’ll even have real snow with a snow making machine,” said ARP’s Founder Susan Crookston. “The event is designed for the entire community and we hope it will feel like a European holiday market. Visitors will be able to listen to music, grab a glass of wine, and purchase last minute presents while the kids enjoy the holiday displays at the park.” Tickets are $5 per person or $10 per family and can be purchased at https://alleghenyrivertrailpark.org/shiver-by-the-river/ .
Adding to the fun, children from the Fox Chapel Area School District have created two large signs that will be unveiled to the public at event. “In this time of separation, outdoor events and public art are experiences we can all share. These “Joy” signs really brighten up the Park and are perfect for holiday pictures,” said Ms. Crookston. Teacher Joe Gass’ Technology education students Eric Baker, Manic McKaveney, Peyton Shema, and Cullen Sunday designed the seven and a half foot letters on the computer then cut them using a C and C Router. “We are just happy to be able to bring “Joy” to so many, by way of technical knowledge and practical application,” said Mr. Gass.
Teacher and Ketchup City Creative Owner Nanci Goldberg and local mothers Cassie Conti and Kayla Portis facilitated the painting of the work. “The outdoors brings joy all year long. I think it saved our sanity during the pandemic…the ability to be outdoors and be joyful. This JOY represents how fortunate we are to have so many amazing outdoor spaces like ARP,” said Ms. Goldberg. Fox Chapel students Elizabeth Crookston, Audrey, Claire, Luca, and Mae Conti, and Charles and Caleb Portis enjoyed the painting. “We had a nice time painting,” said Caleb. “We would encourage anyone interested to join this project.”

Founded in 2011, Allegheny RiverTrail Park features a fabulous Playground sculpture by world renowned artist Tom Otterness, a sled riding hill, off leash dog park, a fishing dock with hanging swings, walking trails, and native gardens. During the summer, the Park offers a café and marina, kayak rentals, music, theater, a free concert series, summer camps and other programs for the public.
