This past September, Shaler resident Deana Young brought something special to Allegheny RiverTrail Park: a fitness class that moves more than just bodies. Fit4Mom, a San Diego–founded program with more than 250 locations nationwide, blends exercise, motherhood, and community—welcoming moms and their little ones to work out together.

Teaching has always been part of Deana’s story. From dance and baton to hairstyling, she’s spent much of her career instructing and connecting with others. Now, as a self-proclaimed stay-at-home mom, she’s taken on a new role as the owner and instructor of Fit4Mom Shaler/Fox Chapel.

About the Class

Deana leads three Stroller Strides classes each week at Allegheny RiverTrail Park. You can find an up-to-date schedule on our website calendar. The workouts offer a full-body workout for moms, combining cardio and strength training—all while keeping kids entertained and engaged. Think rows paired with songs like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” sung straight to giggling toddlers.

Most children in attendance are babies and toddlers because they’re young enough to stay in their strollers. After class, the fun continues with a group activity designed just for engaging the kids further. Activities like crafts, sensory bins, playground time, bubbles, books are planned and provided by Deana to encourage play and socialization.

Why Fit4Mom?

Fit4Mom offers more than fitness–it offers a village.

“Motherhood can be so isolating. You need a community,” Deana says. “This gives that to people. It’s an exercise class and a mom group in one.”

The atmosphere is intentionally welcoming and judgment-free. Come as you are. Crying kids are met with helping hands, silly songs, and knowing smiles. Everyone is there for the same reason: to take care of themselves while caring for their children. If one little one gets fussy, the group steps in together. It’s truly a team effort.

Deana first discovered Fit4Mom in the North Hills when her daughter Lyla, now five, was an infant. Feeling isolated and craving something just for herself and her baby, she decided to give it a try and she was quickly hooked. Today, while Lyla is in school, Deana’s 16-month-old son joins her for almost every class.

How to Join

Moms can try their first class for free using this link. Class packages are available in five- or ten-class options, but Deana recommends the unlimited monthly membership for $60. There’s no long-term commitment, and memberships can be canceled at any time.

Fit4Mom isn’t just a workout. It’s movement, connection, and community, all wrapped into one stroller-friendly hour.
